This week Ella has had an explosion of artistic creativity. Out of nowhere, her princess drawings have begun to have recognizable body parts like eyes, a head, hair, and a body. Sometimes they also have legs -- but never just two. They are octopus princesses, Ella says, and have had up to 27 legs. It's all or nothing in this house.
She spends about 45 minutes every morning constructing princess crowns and trying them on Avery's head. She cuts them the width way instead of the length way on the paper and ends up with a pile of bracelets. "Hmmm, doesn't fit. Avee, your head is toooooo big."
Nana, we will dedicate this post to you. If not for the "developmental purchases" of tape and scissors, our budding Picasso would have been stifled with only the MagnaDoodle.

Kallie has been doing the same thing lately. She drew her first real person a few weeks ago at church on her DoodlePro. And, Kallie's only have 2 legs, but many arms--sometimes coming out of the top of the head. Don't you love it? :D
That is so cute! I keep waiting for Weston's scribbles to take on recognizable shapes. So far nothing. He did draw a hammer the other day that sorta looked like it could be a hammer. Anyway, I am still laughing about your comment on my keepin it real post. I love that you yakked on Ella's poop. So funny. We are in pullups (day) and diapers (night) until he can go 5 whole days keeping his pullup dry. The reward is that he then gets to wear his underwear again. He desperately wants to wear them. Oh well. It was worth a shot and at least now I know he is capable of using the toilet, he just isn't ready to choose it himself. Eventually he'll get there. Glad that your little princess is a budding artist. I can't wait to see more of her original works. :)
That is pretty fun. Owen still likes to draw "fireworks" which is really just jagged lines all over the page.
I still viscerally remember the day that Emily Lara went from scribbles to actual drawings. I heard her saying, "And there is her curly hair and there is her eyes and there is her mouth..."--looked down and !!! There was curly hair and eyes and a mouth! Holy cow! I was so excited! It has been so neat to watch her drawing mature.
One thing I am so grateful I did was that I saved those early drawings (and dated them). A friend of mine told me about a little book her mom had made of her kid drawings so I started saving the best example of each developmental stage of drawing for her. I just started putting them in a little book last week and it was so cool to actually be able to see the progression. So, anyhow, save some of those pictures in a safe place! You will want them when she is older. (PS I am keeping this little book a secret from Emily Lara so that she doesn't insist that every blessed thing she draws goes into the book. It is my personal happy book of her drawings which she can have when I die. :-)
Sorry for the novel. It's a topic I'm excited about!
How cute! Tyler isn't even close to that at all. We have been working on writing T's and 1's and 0's, but he just has no artistic interest whatsoever. Then again, neither do I. We tried scissors the other day and he got frustrated with that too. Maybe one day...
I love watching Sofia's drawings evolve!! I need to be better about encouraging her artistic side.
This is great! I'm with most of these mothers in that we're still dealing with scribbles. But that's okay. She's starting to see the value in different colors and that's a step.
