Breaking Done

It is finished. At last, I can put these ridiculous pieces of silliness to rest. Creative, yes. Entertaining, OK. Sometimes boring. Sometimes laughable. And also alarmingly popular with a wide age range of women. Hmmmmmm.
You are welcome to profess your love for the series in my comments below--and I won't think less of you--but I just can't agree. It's not great literature. It doesn't add up to much more than a cheap romance novel under the name brand of an LDS author. And this last installment took things into bizarre territory with a weak, unresolved ending. Not that if she didn't write another one, I wouldn't read it. I just would be looking for something more than I would be likely to find here. So Kathy, you are finally getting your book back. It took me long enough!

I'm still rebelling against reading them! Haven't even had the desire to pick them up yet. (I guess that's not really rebelling, then, huh?) Maybe some day, but for now I'm fine reading other things.

What can I say? I came to help you with your baby and I ended up reading 3 of the books. When I got home I waited in line to borrow Teri Hayes copy of Breaking Dawn. (I couldn't bring myself around to buying it). When I realized that they were written for young girls and that description would be quite a stretch for me I fell into a comfortable place with it. I am glad I read them. I was amazed how compelled I was to keep reading it. I say Kudo's to Stephanie and consider her a BYU success story. No, I would not consider them classics, but they have not had time for that. But I don't consider them cheap trashy novels either. She has a style of her own and I would like to try some of her other books someday. Love you guys. Nana loves you Ella and Avery.

I agree with you. Total fluff. That didn't stop them from being page turners. I even read the half novel on her website written from Edward's point of view.

If anyone wants to read a book of hers with some real content and meat to it, check out her first novel The Host. It's the only one I'm not too embarrassed to put out on my bookshelf.

Katie, I so agree with you. Yes the books were entertaining and I of course read them, but I still can't figure out what ALL the hype is about. And what's with this ridiculousness with everyone being in love with Edward? He's nothing compared to my Jeremy! :-) Do you know what I think? I think with your FABULOUS writing skills you should write a novel!

Thank you Katie! You put my exact thoughts into words! My young women keep urging me to read more and I can't bring myself to pick up Eclipse. I did read Twilight and New Moon while working out on the elliptical. They were entertaining but I had no urge to continue reading when I was done exercising. I have not understood the hype but hey...to each their own.

I was at a friends house one day and she had one of these books on the table. I had heard all of the mormon women praise it, so I thought I'd pick it up and see what all the fuss was about. I read a couple chapters and could not understand the obsession. It seemed silly to me, and a little strange. But to each her own. I'm glad you made it through the books. :)

I liked them for an entertaining read, but I think that the first book was the best. After that it just seemed like she was trying to stretch the story, but she didn't have a lot more to tell. I thought that the fourth book was really out there. The thing that bugs me is that these books are supposed to be for teenage girls--but there is so much sexual tension in them. Bella is ALWAYS pushing the limits and Edward is always the one to stop? Um, yeah, that's reality. I just don't like all of these girls reading that and thinking that they can tease all they want and somehow the boy is going to draw the line...I mean, seriously! I had to laugh when I walked through Walmart the other day and saw these books in the "LDS Inspirational" section. As an older married girl I had no problem with the books, but as a mother, I wouldn't want my teenage girls to read them.

I liked her books b/c I'm a sucker for happy/cheesy endings....you should read The Host. Very interesting, but it takes about the first 40 pages to really get into it...but worth the time.

Dear Katie. I know.

HA! Why did I leave a response to my blog on yours? One shouldn't blog before a certain hour in the morning.

Regarding your question - I haven't read any of the series. I just doesn't interest me. However - I felt the same way about Potter, and loved it. (well-I haven't read past #5). So I can't make a fair judgment at this point.

But I can say that if I read the series, I'd probably 2nd your Breaking Dawn E-motion.

Also - thanks for the blog link - wolf and bear. You're my hero.

I think what you said was so hilarious. That is how I have felt about the books as well, I just couldn't get into them or see what the big deal was with all the CRAZED women out there. Hillary had a friend that said if you read them, you will want to leave your husband! Anyway, good job on finishing the last book, yeah.

I agree with you 100 percent. I am mad that I actually used my money to buy breaking dawn. Weird book...

Ha! Ha! This whole thing/frenzy makes me laugh. Yes, a page-turner. But I have a hard time really getting into a book about vampires. Haven't made it past Twilight.
