Last night I was tucking Ella into bed a little earlier than usual because I wanted to fully enjoy the season premier of Lost all to myself. So I was reading her a stack of books, the last one being Where the Wild Things Are. We just checked this out from the library this week and she's a big fan so she's been asking me to read it to her multiple times each night. After about 5 times through, I looked her straight in the eye and said (very seriously), "Now tonight when mommy goes away, the stars on your ceiling will be like the stars outside and your bed will grow into a big forest and a private boat will take you to where the wild things are. And they'll all look at you with their terrible yellow eyes and chomp their terrible teeth and show you their terrible claws but you won't be afraid because you're the most wild thing of all. And you'll tell the wild things to run and play and you'll have so much fun! But then you'll miss your mom and dad and where you're loved best of all. So you'll hop back in your boat and sail home for a year and when you get home breakfast will be waiting nice and hot."
Ella was silent the entire time. I thought she was digging it. But after I finished the last word she burst into sobbing tears and jumped in my lap shaking with grief. I will just stick to the text from now on. And let's just say, she was up till 11 with me.
Also yesterday she had me cracking up because she told me she really needed to write a letter to her cousin Becca. When I looked down at her paper, she wrote a big "E" and taped her picture on top.

Thats so Awsome! We love that book at our house too!
Sounds like something Chandra would do!
Nice going Katie!!! Three year olds take stuff to heart and pretty seriously. Funny story!
You are so funny!!! Poor Ella, you did not mention that is why she was up so late:)
You need a boy. Owen would have eaten that up and loved it. I love what a good mom you are even though you scared the wits out of Ella.
LOL, so did she end up watching LOST with you? haha... isn't that show the best? it is our favorite!
I swear I came here one time and you had gone to private! Crazy Me! :) You kids are so dang cute!
Oh, you wicked, wicked mommy! :-) Thanks for the laugh!
Pretty funny Katie... it made me smile - it sounds like something I would have done when our children were little - but you know what if you had said that to Bryson when he was three - he would say gee Dad what if I don't wanna come back - I'll prolly be having so much fun I won't want to come back home on the boat...
Love ya...I hope your mom is doing better...Dad Green
